Offered at: $150,000

Built in 1972 by Fred Kepler to race in IMSA and SCCA Trans Am and A/P competition. Fred Kepler transformed a factory equipped L71 427/435 hp car and built it to full L88 specifications, including a 650 hp 427 with M22 “Rock Crusher” transmission, with the intent to complete in IMSA, FIA and SCCA Trans AM. Upon completion the car was raced in both Trans AM and IMSA as car #26 and #36 respectively with co-drivers Bob Sharp and John Orr. Finished 2nd place in IMSA GTO and 4th overall at the Bryar IMSA 3-hour in September 1972. In November 1972, the car finished 5th ing GTO and 10th overall in the season finale IMSA Daytona 250. Fred Kepler won the 1973 SCCA New York Region A/Production Championship and was invited to ARRC (American Road Race Of Champions).

The car was bought by Tom Rynone in 1974, and continued to race in in A/Production, Trans AM, and IMSA.  The car retired from racing in 1981 after an accident in an FIA event. The car was later sold again in 2000, when the owner restored the car to the original 1972-1973 livery while maintaining many of the original suspension components. Following completion the car was invited to make it’s track debut at Rolex Monterey Historic Racing in 2010 at Monterey La Guna where it finished second. In 2011 the coveted Monterey Trophy for performance and historic preservation was awarded to this beautiful car.

Currently the car is offered in its 1972-1973 period racing setup, with engine, transmission, exhaust, tires, livery, and much more presented the same as when the car was first completed. The car comes with all racing logbooks for Fred Kepler and Rynone, time sheets, race programs, restoration photos and the prestigious Monterey Trophy.
