History
This special one-off Merlyn C Sports Racer was built for U.S. Merlyn importer/dealer Bill Ippolito in 1971, and has since proven itself on the race track. Ippolito put the car on the pole for the 1971 SCCA American Road Race of Champions (ARRC) race held at Road Atlanta. Ippolito raced the car for two seasons before it was sold to David Haines.
Haines raced the Mk.16 to the 1973 SCCA, C Sports Racing Midwest Division National Championship in 1973, and he captured the National Championship again in 1974. And 1975, the Mk.16 was raced by David Heroes.
Though after 1975, further racing details are unknown.
The Merlyn was restored and began historic racing in the 1990’s. Most recently the car raced in the 2012, Lime Rock Vintage Fall Festival. The car has finished first, second, or third in each of the past three years at that event.
